About the treatment

Skin pigmentation marks are a build up of melanocytes (cells containing melanin) under the skin typically referred to as freckles and age spots on the hands, face and body areas. Different types of laser can be used depending on the type of pigmentation. The treatment will also depend on the area being treated, the type of pigmentation, and level of recovery time. Laser treatment is one of the most advanced treatments for removing unwanted pigmentation on the skin such as age spots, sun spots, and freckles.

Immediate darkening is noticed after treatment. For 7-10 days the area will look like a dark scab which eventually sheds off.

How does Laser Pigmentation Removal work?

The Syneron-Candela GentleMax Pro produces a wavelength of high energy light, which is then converted into heat energy. This can target the specific area of pigmentation because the laser is absorbed only by cells containing an excessive concentration of pigmentation. This causes efficient destruction while leaving the surrounding tissue undamaged.

Benefits of Pigmentation Removal

  • Can minimise and eliminate the appearance of pigmentation

  • Treats body and facial areas

  • Minimal side effects and recovery time

  • Make-up can be worn after treatment

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the treatment involve?

It works by concentrating a burst of single-wavelength light onto the skin which is well absorbed by skin cells containing excessive concentrations of pigment. This light either lightens the targeted pigmentation or removes it altogether.

What results can I expect?

Many of our patients see results after just 1 treatment. The average number of treatments required for partial removal is 1-2, while for complete removal this increases to 3-5. How many treatments you will require depends on the level of melanin pigmentation and where your pigmented lesion is located – as well as what type of pigmented lesion you have. Most patients can reasonably expect at least 3 treatments performed 4 – 6 weeks apart for age spots, while 10 low intensity treatments may be needed for sun-exposed areas.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment will take 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

What is the recovery period?

You can return to your normal daily activities immediately after treatment. However there is 24 hours of “social” down time due to slight redness and mild post treatment swelling. Surface micro-crusting on treated areas resolves over 7-14 days.
